Broken Main Control Spring Plunger

The main control spring plunger on my 9N sheared off inside the cover. Can this be replaced from the outside? I can't get the pin moved far enough to remove the remaining piece. (First post didn't show up)

Can the cover be lifted just a little easily to replace it, or is a major job to remove the cover to get to it?

oing to need removal. Gasket must be replaces and you couldn't disconnect plunger anyway. Good time to clean out 60 years of dirt from sump, too. Not too major........like a lot of jobs, the dreaded anticipation is a lot worse than the job itself. All of us fear the unknown way too much. No big deal

I was just reading the step by step in the shop manual. The lift control lever fork is the only internal connection....correct?
