Saw this ad for a tractor close to me. It's a 801. He didn't say whats wrong with it. I'm guessing the transmission is bad. Ad had a picture but was unable to transfer it. Looks fair. Rears have tread but one was flat.
What do you guys think? Great deal? Good deal? Fair? Not worth it? Might go look at it later today once I get home.

Ford Select O Speed - $650

Don't want to scrap it, but need to move it. Can you use parts or give it a home? I love the look of it, but could use the cash!

Insufficient information to answer your question but it should be well worth the asking price and could be a great deal.

If you buy it you're stuck with the aptly named SOS transmission as there's no way to economically change it for a stick. It will need to be fixed. Who's going to do that$$$?

A couple of years ago I went to look at a "Non-Running Ford 2000 For Parts- $850". I left there with a 971 Gold Demonstrator on my trailer for $600. A carb kit and fuel tank flush got it running. The SOS works just fine.

Actually, you could change it to a four speed for $500 or less.

Changeover to a live PTO five speed would be significantly more expensive.

One like that till you look at it you can not be sure. We picked up a 901/981 a few years back that did not run. But 24 hours after getting home it ran and drove just fine. Got it cheap by the way. So go look at it and see what all is or is not wrong with it. If it runs at all you could offer a bit less and see what happens. You could part it out and make that back in a few months or less

Does the engine run?

It appears to have a remote hydraulic valve, and it looks like a dual spool but I cannot be sure from the photo. If a dual spool valve, the valve alone should be worth $500+.

Are those power adjust wheels on it?? If so that brings the price up some also and as Dean said remote hyd valves.

I called as soon as I got home. The lady told me there was a couple of guys looking at it now. She said she would text me to let me know if they bought it. She also told me the town they were from. I'm thinking it was the same guy that I got an engine from a couple of years ago. He parts out a lots of old Fords. I knew that if they drove 80 miles to look at it and went back empty handed then it wouldn't be worth going to look at.
But as I suspected they got it.
Guess I'll wait for the next deal. I'm home more often now (3 days out of the week) so maybe I jump on a good deal sooner or later. I have seen quite a few on Craigslist that I missed by being gone all the time. I'm getting ready to pull the 9N around and going thru it. (I've never had it running) Then I might do 'Ol'Smokey' (2N).
