Clutch lever shaft replacement?

Has anyone ever attemted to pull the shaft that the clutch lever pivots on and replace it with a new one? The one on my 1940 RTS is totally worn out, including both holes on the lever itself. I was wondering if it might come out after heating the casting a bit, then working it with a pipe wrench??? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, Heath

I tried heating mine and removing to no avail.
Was afraid of damaging tranny top .
Took tranny top and handle to a machine shop and they removed pin and installed a quality hardened pin with grease grove wooven around it and bushed the clutch handle.
Better then new and not very expensive.
