Putting a 504 in a G vi

I'm thinking about taking out the 425 LP and putting in a 504 LP. Using it for 7000 lb county fair pulling. I understand the 504 has more power and probobly a better head, cam and governor too?

I do have some 605 parts. But it's an older 605. Is there a piston with compression height to match the short 4 5/8" cylinder block to a 6 inch stroke?

If this 504 is healthy I might run that way for a season to see how it does. I have ran the 425 a few times with 16.9 x 38s in 7000Lb. I don't pull to win but want to have fun. Best it done so far is a third place and that day it beat a 4010 and a 3010. The track was wet and I think I had a better tire for that day.
 
i pull a GVI with a 605 in it and i can get down to 6500 and pull up to 7500lbs. i can get in the top 3 but the problem with it is it is to heavy on the nose and cant get the balance right. i have pulled 2nd gear and 1st gear and it spins out everytime even on a good track and i run 18.4x38 firestones on mine. we run a 18 inch hitch and 20 high and it was set up at 24inches long when i got it and i cut it back to 18 and i think it hurt me some when we was thinking it would do alot better than it does. i pulled against a 450cube UTS and he beats me in the 7000lb class but i get him in the 7500lb cause he can balance it better. got a combine frontend and a aluminum radiator to put on it but just havent had the time to do it.
 
My hitch is around 20" back and 20" down. The tractor still has the big fenders and it's some under 6800 lbs with out me.

It had a 85 LB center weight bracket and I took that off and stuck 85 LBs in the box under the seat where the hydraulic tank used to be. I'd like to move some more weight back if I can sometime.
 
the weight dont sound right to me. i got nime bolt hubs and wheels on mine, 8 gallon aluminum lp tank, no fenders, and the heavy headlite piece off it, lightweight seat and bracket, and it weighs 6400 by its self. the fenders should be more than 200 each i would think
 
Here is a pic of mine with the 16.9s except now it has a forklift LP tank up where the original was. And that weight bracket under the clutch housing is gone too. It's not far from 7K lb with me on it. Depending on the scale I might be able to put 50-100 lbs on back. And that's with the 85 lbs stashed under the seat.

I think your right it must be closer to 6600 LBs empty with no driver. I haven't weighed it empty.

There aren't too many 6500 lb classes where I am so the fenders can stay for now. The next class up at the fairs would be 9K lb.

so the truth comes out. pmer has a stock GVI with 16.9 tires!!! Who is he to dog me about my HD800 tractor! That makes my day!! Mabie if he puts on a chrome pipe he can gain ten horse!
 
Hey jd plowboy, I have the same problem, to much nose weight. when i was at a national pull I watched a gvi pull in the 5500 div.5 class and carried the front end from about half track on out the gate. I dont want to say his name online but check it out he was the 5500 or 6000 NATPA points champion last year, we need to check out his hitch. Also I have an aluminum headlight housing for a GVI that we never used that ill sell.
 
I should keep my mouth shut but im not going to! Pmer, you and a bunch of outhers made fun of mm585 when he asked a few questions about rod and piston combos for an HD800, and again when he asked about his boys GB Diesel. Now we find out that you pull with a stock GVI??? Whats with that? Good luck with your engine swap. Hope it has enouff ponys to plow the garden when your done!
 
That's too bad you thought I was giving crap. There use to be a differnce between having a little fun and the PC ninja stuff you guys are pulling. I've seen worse.

I don't get the big deal that my G vi is stock. Sorry if I lead you guys to believe that. You could go back to page 18 and see the same picture.
 
Okay then..a few years ago welters farm service had 4 3/4 pistons for the short jugs but you had to offset grind your 6" stroke crank and run a 283 moline rod with one side of the big end milled off, you might try calling them. I assume your trying to stick with the short jugs because of the rules in your area? An early 800 would be cheaper and bolt right in but your back to tall jugs again. I have several early 800's and can find more, they dont bring near what the HD800's do.
 
Thank you for the information. My rules don"t say I have to use short blocks for most of the pulls I can get to.

Cheaper is better since I had to get a different truck this summer. A early 800? Would it bolt to the Gvi LP flywheel? What head do they usually have?
