Recap: Bought a 871 with a hydraulic pump gear stripped on the pump shaft. New gear, shaft, seal, needle and roller bearings. Pump worked but hammered at rpm > 1200. Rebuilt pump head, new gaskets, valve seats, ball bearings and spacer/spring plate. Installed per shop manual instructions. Pump still hammers and loses prime overnight.
I did a close visual inspection and could find no cracks. There is no oil leak, so it must be leaking air on the suction side of the pump... .
I am going to pull the pump and permatex the o ring on the suction side.
