Early 3000, shift pattern??

My neighbor bought an early (vents in hood) 3000 that had been fitted with an Auburn trencher. Parts of the trencher are still on the tractor, but some ding-aling PO torched off the digging chain and half of the boom for the chain. On the main tranny, there is a single shift lever, but no markings on the tranny cover to indicate what positions the gears are located. It was cold when I looked at it, so I might have missed something as I swept the snow and ice off the tranny cover. I did not start the engine as it was cold (but it will run). As I played with the main tranny stick, I think I found R (left forward) and 4 other gears. It seems to me that this tranny is like the 8N's. Does anybody know what the shift pattern is for this??

The Auburn trencher has added a tranny section between the main trans and the rear end housing. No doubt this is to provide a super low gear for trenching. But I have not found a lever that shifts the aux tranny. It currently seems to want to go fast (maybe regular speed??). Does anyone have experience with the Auburn system? It does seem to be very heavy duty. Where is the shift lever for the aux tranny?

AFAIK, the 4-speed shift pattern stayed the same until it was dropped in favor of the 6-speed...

Hmmm... that doesn't show up quite like I typed it... the 2 and 4 should line up, as should the 1 and 3.
