Would a 601 Workmaster Industrial be a good candidate to hang a small Ditch Witch Backhoe off of?
I does not come with 3 point or PTO. But does have a FEL on it.

I had a little davis backhoe on one of my 841's. These backhoes were also used on ditch witch. Mine ran off the loader pump. You will have to build some kind of frame for it.

Yours look to be about the same size as mine.
Does the tractor handle it OK. I take it that it is permanently mounted?
Wonder if anyone has a drawing of how to make the frame or maybe a picture of one not mounted to the tractor.
Would an "industrial" tractor has a heavier duty axle or not?

The pictured tractor does not appear to be an "industrial" model but rather an AG model.

FWIW, it has MF rear rims.

Yes it handled it ok. The mount was not permanent. I had a quick disconnent on the hydraulic line and pull 4 pins and you could disconnect the backhoe off the back and have access to your 3pt system.
Yes both the light and heavy industrial will have a different front axle. the HD industrial also had a frame.

One another thing I would like to point out is that you won't have much of a reach with this backhoe. But it's good it tight areas and I had no trouble digging a 5' deep thrench for the water line for my wood stove.

He said it was an Industrial model with no PTO and No 3 point.
Any thing I could ask him to help identify it?
Has could I tell for sure if I go look at it if it is or not?
It is 68 miles away from me.

They never made a industrial 601 only a ag version. They did make a striped down version of the 601 that did not have gauges; pto; or 3 point. That is what that tractor is. If it was a industrial version it would be called a 2000.

The light industrial 2000 made in the same time period with most of the same parts as the 601 had a solid non adjustable front axle and other beefed up parts.

With that said the only thing the light industrial 2000 has over the 601 ag is better front end loader use from a better front end axle. Both tractors need a backhoe that is well supported from the front end or loader frame. If you just hang the backhoe off the rear end you are asking for trans case trouble as the backhoe twist the tractor while in use. This cracks the trans housing.

The light industrial will have a one piece front axle, non ajustable.
They did make a heavy duty front end for the 601 for loader work. It should have a yellow tag label on both sides of the doglegs.

John is a 100 % right! And whatever you do, don"t lift the back of the tractor off the ground with the out riggers(don"t know if these outriggers could do it anyway)
This goes for the front of your tractor with the FEL also; DO NOT LIFT OFF THE GROUND!!
