looking for a reverser trans

I'm starting to look for a reverser/shuttle trans for the n series. I'm finding myself in need of a rough terrain forklift more & more lately. I've searched this board and checked out Smith's site, just not much out there about them. I'm just thinking, but would it be possible to convert a step-up into a reverser? I'd like to stay with an N for parts compatibility, I already have 3 of them. Thanks.

My friend Kenny has one.
I think it came out of an 8N - not sure of that.
He bought it for a Hundred series project that never got off the ground. I think they will interchange.
Email me and I'll put you in touch with him.

Hello Wes , You will be looking for a long time looking for a Sherman Manual Reverser for n series because they NEVER made one . First ones came out for 600/800 series tractors and were much more popular with the 601/801 - 2000/4000 tractors but with fine spline input shafts . Shift linkage mounted to the steering box on left or right hand sides depending on application . Since n series had a different steering box you won't be able to use shift linkage without modification just depends on how much time and money you have to spend on it . Sherman Step-ups can't be converted to a reverser for the main reason they are to small case design compared to the reverser case never mind the cost of making parts to do it . Ford started building their own Rough Terrain Forklifts in 1960 on the Heavy Duty Industrial chassis that lifted to a max of 6000 lbs before they moved to the later 3 cyl. chassis . I don't beleive any of the aftermarket forklifts for the n series lifted more 1000 lbs because of the weak rear ends in them . Depending on what you are going to lift and the weight you want to lift why not just look for a older real rough terrain forklift and be done with it ? 3 tractors wont last long after you break all of the rear ends in them . Thanks Tony

Don"t know if your still looking for a reverser trans or not but I have one still attached to the main trans and complete rear end. It"s got hydraulic brake conversion on it and it came from a forklift so it should have the correct oil slinger in the transmission. Forklifts used a special slinger cause they were running backwards most of the time. I"ll take 700.00 for everything.u pick up. 2483384650 leave message if no answer
