Selector Valve

I have a "77 Ford 4600 with a loader that has become a pain to operate. I think its the selector valve. I need to push the lever back (see pics)each time there is little resistance. Its becoming hard to do any work. Is it just a matter of replacing the selector valve....that is, disconnecting the two hydraulic hoses, removing 4 bolts or so, and re-connecting a new valve. I don"t want to open a can of worms as the valve is around $200 and maybe a shop should do it. Thanks

Your valve is a remote valve not a selector valve. I have the same style remote valve on my old style 4000 that I use to power a fisher snow plow. I just use a bungee cord to hold the handle back. The valve is working as it was designed to work. When hooked to a cylinder to raise and lower a piece of equipment you could pull the handle back and when the cylinder got to the end of it's stroke the valve would go back to neutral. A new valve will do the same thing. The later delux remotes have an adjustable detent to keep them locked in.

Thanks Mark....I was thinking of doing that but wanted to be sure. And thanks for clarfying my description of the valve as I noticed none of the new "selector" valves looked like mine.
