I am new to have a 1987 ford 545a,4 wheel drive tractor, with skip loader& shuttle shift. Am confused as to the operation of small round pedal, connected to a switch under the left foot rest platform, that must be held down to move tractor when shuttle shift is in forward or reverse. Some tell me it is a safety device to stop all movement while away from tractor &others say is working backwards as it should work similar to a clutch to stop motion when depressed.HELP, all info appreciated, what is the proper operation, THANKS POPCORN/////CONFUSED.

555 TLB has a similar pedal thats a diff lock....but that doesn't sound like what you have.

The switch is working backwards, It should be a disconnect when you step on the pedal. There should also be a button on top of the loader control valve that is also a disconnect when you push the button.

Should be a dump valve switch and it sounds as if it is working exactly opposite as it was designed to. Should press it to dump lockup pressure to the directional clutch packs and stop travel.
