Engine fan belt on '66 4500 TLB

The one and only fan belt that goes from crank pulley to water to alternator looks to be at least 20 years old. It is loss and sloppy at idle, runs bit smoother at high idle and above.

I was told you have to split the nose off to change it. Is that true? I see the hydro pump drive shaft is on the crank pulley. Can it not be pulled off so as to change the belt?
