801 hydraulic lift

A few months ago I posted about how my 801 Powermaster three point hitch abruptly stopped working. There were a number of people who offered advise and today I finally had a chance to look into the problem. Turns out that after looking into the fill hole I see some linkage disconnected, I removed the top cover and the connecting rod to the piston is disconnected from both ends. So obviously I need to obtain a new pin, but the question is why/how did the pin come out in the first place? And then I notice another small rod extending from some linkage adjacent to the piston, not sure if this is something else broken or if it is supposed to look this way. If I get a chance this week I will post a picture and try to clarify what I am trying to describe.

Thank You, that answers some a question, at the end
of the cylinder is a short rod coming from the
linkage toward the cylinder and I see that is
correct. Now I have to locate the pin that holds the
connecting rod in place.

Did the piston come out of the cylinder? If not, the "short rod" did its job.

In any event, always replace the cam follower pin and Piston O-ring and back-up washer anytime the lift cover is removed. After doing this, readjust the linkage using the alternative (special tools not needed) procedures in the FO-20 manual. If you find insufficient threads on the turnbuckle to achieve proper draft control adjustment, replace the draft control fork.

You should thoroughly clean the sump and replace the hydraulic oil.

Ok, Got the problem almost resolved, however there is a concern. The pin holding the connecting rod in place is gone, I cant find it anywhere, I have drained the case and looked all around inside, looked all over the top cover. Is there any possibility that it could have traveled into the transmission or the axle. I would really like to find it before it damages something else. You would think that a 5/16" x 2 1/8" pin would turn up quite easily.

ot into transmission or axle on that model. I don't know if into suction line is possible or not...someone probably knows.
