Fuel Pump 3000

Is there an easy way to remove the fuel pump?
Can I elimate it have read here you can. and if the pump is bad does it make a Knocking Noise?
thanks for the help. Have read other posts here but the knock hasnt been addressed.

I assume that you're talking about a gasoline engine 3000.

The fuel pump can be hard to get to. I haven't had to pull mine yet so I don't know for sure, but some folks claim they can get to them without pulling anything but the hood panels, while others say that you've got to pull the nose cone sheet metal as well.

if you think you've got problems with your fuel pump, you can certainly try bypassing it and going with a gravity feed directly from the tank to the carb, but I wouldn't recommend running it that way long term. It should run without the fuel pump as long as there is enough gas in the tank, and I would probably remove the sediment bowl filter and replace it with an in-line filter designed for a gravity fed system. The outlet at the shutoff valve at the bottom of the tank is close to level with the inlet in the carb, so if the fuel is low in the tank and you're going up a hill, you'll likely run the carb dry and kill the engine.

might scab a 2-4 psi fuel pump on.. I know napa has 12v ones. I used one on a ford industrial engine on a wood chipper.. not gracefull.. but it worked when the oe one failed..

I replaced my fuel pump on my 3400 recently, and it wasn't too difficult. Of course, I already had the hood panels, nose cone, and radiator off for other repairs. That being said, the gravity feed is less than ideal. The electric fuel pump seems to be a bit of work also. By the time you locate a pump that will work, plumb it in and wire it you probably could have just replaced the oem pump. Fleabay has aftermarket replacements pretty cheap. I have a tendency to dislike gerry-rigging things though. Just my 2 cents, and I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Was a note in these pages about the location of all the filters. I know of only the sediment bowl what else is there ?
What about the knock issue?

The first fuel filter is a screen in the tank itself, on the top of the shutoff valve assembly. The second filter is another screen in the top of the fuel pump. The third is inside the sediment bowl, it looks like a stack of washers. Teh fourth one is inside the fitting where the line from the sediment bowl goes into the carb.

As to the knocking sound, have you checked the valve adjustments? If you're sure that the knocking sound is coming from the fuel pump, then the springs might be worn out or broke that's for keeping the push rod under tension that rides on the cam and drives the pump. if that spring is broken or worn out then the push rod can knock.

Well here was the problem, I had replaced the fuel tank shut off a few years ago. the shut off valve was made of plastic

When I tried to drain the tank I found that gas wouldnt run out !
That plastic plunger/valve was broken and not allowing gas to flow. I just ordered a new valve and now I betcha ! It will be getting fuel, thanks to all for their imput !
