8n powerstering

is there powerstering available and about how much. tractor has front pump. if so how far from n indiana is 8n side distributer thanks gene

i agree with UD.

by the time you dump in 1-1.5K into ps.. you are left with a non live pto 4spd unit with 27hp and a poor breathing engine.

bump to an 861 with ps, sell the 8n, and be about 500$ into it. :) better gearing.. near 2x hp.. etc.

or a 2000/3000 3 cyl for another 500$ and have choices like 8spd trans..e tc.. diffy lock.. etc better diesel..etc

Power steering is available, but as the others have said, its expensive.
As much as I love my N's, the power steering costs as much as the tractor.
I just finished adding PS to my Jubilee, and it works well, but I found all the
parts used and rolled my own for about $200.
If you can do it that way, you might want to consider it.
Otherwise I would have to agree with UD and SG.
Also, since you mentioned it has a front pump, I assume you are using a loader.
While the N's are great tractors, the front end is not really meant to handle much
in the way of extra weight, and will wear out parts rather quickly.
Adding PS may lull you into thinking you're not lifting too much and damage more.

a very heavy counterweight as far back as possible is
pretty cheap and will help.

agree with Royse, that PS can encourage bad habits that break parts.
the forces on the front end when turning with a full bucket
are exactly the same on my 1 finger PS modern tractor
as there is on my older loader tractors.
so even on the new one, I use a counterweight and never turn the wheel
when the tractor isn't moving, even if it takes a few more back and forth maneuvers.
with that said, no way, no how will I give
up my PS on the newer tractor :D
