OK, been working on my 860, trying to get it running because my 8 yr old grandson wants to drive it. It hasn't run for about 15 yrs, it has always been inside. I bought it new in 1956 when I was i8 yrs old. It has no fire at the points so I used a jumper wire from the + on the bat. to the + on the coil and it started by using the button on the solenoid. The starter button does not work nor does the switch do anything, what do I look for now? Thanks for any help.

If it runs hot wired then you have a bad ignition switch of a bad wire from the coil back to the battery. Jumper across the ignition switch and if that works the switch is bad if not then you have a bad wire or connection

god a good battery?

you mention jumping + from battery.

what aren't you telling us?

is this machien now wired negative ground?

is it 12v or 6v?

alternator or genny?

so.. you can hotwire coil.. have you tried bypassing safety start button.. in neutral, and clutchblocked of course?

OK, I had it wrong in my first post, I have a new bat. I have 6 volt, positive ground, genny. I jumped the Neg. battery post to the + on the coil, had fire at the points, it stared right up after sitting for about 15 yrs.by using the button on the solenoid. How do I bypass the safety start button? Thanks

How do I bypass the safety start button?
The push button grounds the wire that is connected to it.
All you have to do is ground that wire.
Be absolutely sure it's in neutral or it will run you over.

if oem style solenoid, it wants ground to activate.. the trans top switch merely is interlocked with trans to only operate in neutral.. otherwise it just grounds that lil wire..
