FORD 861 gas tank

Has anyone taken steps to reduce heat getting to the gas tank on 8xx Fords? Heat shield above muffler is in place, but would a straight pipe give off less heat if I moved the muffler out from under the hood? Any other way to insulate the gas tank from engine heat? thanks.

I do not know if the straight pipe on my 841 is helping or not but that is how I have it set up. The old muffler burned out and I replace it with a piece of copper pipe I had laying around. I have 2 tractors with that copper pipe exhaust on them

The original heat shield has worked for 1000's of Fords for many years. Is yours having problems?

i agree with awhtx. all mine with shields never overheat. i ahd a couple where shields died..a dn I noticed on the first run after 20-30 minutes... built new shields out of roof tin.. no more issues...
