with engine running & low-high in neutral, place other stick in any gear & i get a pretty serious sounding gear rattle @ idle-[800 rpm] bring speed up to 9-950, goes away, may be fine @ idle til shut-down & restart. no noise when both sticks engaged under load--maybe a whine i don't quite like--pretty much picking up engine harmonics i think, but something i don't believe i have run into before on this model diesel. looks like trans/hyd fluid on dipstick-correct i think]? picking up something from clutch assy possible or bearings/gears?--thanks for input--paul

normal...normal..normal..

the shafts will freewheel, the cluch disc will rattle as its free between the pressure place, the wine can be the hydraulics flow and safety valves..

so far you have describe a whole lot of tractors... sound will change will as the fluid changes and thins and thickens...

well, more checking on the trans noise today--it's hard to discribe a noise-but it a pretty bad knock/rattle, running with lo-hi in neutral & shifting main stick in various gears, it is worse in 7-8 speeds. clutch is out, so that is all locked together-depress & noise goes away--pulled top cover & seem to have a lot of play in mainshaft assy.--prying back & forth i can hear that loud thump i believe i'm hearing running-gonna dig out my 3000 manual-[same trans i think] can't remember, believe the rear bearing is cone/cup & shim loaded.I know these things pick up the engine impulses, but this is way worse than that & does go away with more rpm--but i think i gotta open it up to cure it--
