5000 ford questions

Picked up a 67 ford 5000 8 speed diesel earlier this year and just getting around to working on it. Purchased at an estate sale was told the clutch was out. So before just jumping in thought I’d get some opinions. From what I can tell it’s a mechanical clutch. I can put it in gear no grinding without depressing the clutch pedal. That seems wrong to me unless it disengaged. Is it possible its just stuck? Any thoughts. Another odd thing is the 3 pt. It won’t go down with the control lever down. Put a ton of weight on it but wouldn’t budge. Then after just sitting it went down, but as soon as you start the engine arms came back up even thought control lever was down any thoughts on that.

stuck clutches usually mena it grinds to put it in gear even if clutch is pressed.

unloader valve must be stuck on hyds...

sometimes seller's lie or don't know on year.

she's not got dual power does she?

Dunno about the lift arms. As Soundguy says unloader valve?
Clutch is a simple single disc affair but has a secondary drive off the back of the clutch cover to run the second shaft.
They are great tractors and if the rest of it is decent it's worth your time to learn and fix.

The clutch is damaged, time to split the tractor and replace the damaged parts.
Below are things that can be done to prevent another split in the near future.
1 Replace the main seal on the rear of the motor.
2 Replace the input seal on the transmission too, while you have it split.
3 That frost plug at the rear of the motor can leak as well, It could be changed while you have the flywheel off for re-finishing.
4 Have a good look at your ring gear on the flywheel too, repair any damaged areas in the teeth, so the starter can do its job.

thanks all for your thoughts. It is not dual power. I dont mind fixing things and love playing with the fords. I dont farm but have 90 ac. to play on. Have 2 NAA a 861,961 and a 64 4000. so I have my projects.

Hydraulic issue... I'd say the control valve is probably stuck. That's going to require pulling the lift cover and disassembling the valves in there for a good cleaning in varasol and see how everything works. It's also possible that it's not adjusted correctly. Be well advised to get a service manual and go through the setting procedure just to double check the settings.

Clutch.... could be that the center hub is torn free of the lining. Could also be a broken shaft in the transmission. Depends on what happened or how it was abused. Hope you didn't pay too much...
You need to pay very close attention to things when you split the tractor. If the clutch doesn't look bad you better look for another reason...
