1970 ford 4000 tractor

There is a square head plug in the hydraulic pump - right side of the tractor behind your heel.

and if you don't see it.. scrape the gunk off.. someone may have put an inverted head or reduced or chewd up head plug in there like was on mine.. initially didn't see it till I power washed it...

Udog is cheatin with his freshly rebuilt outta school midgit row crop tractor he was showin off oil pressure on. Thought that tractor was retired from teaching!!

I think I just learned something as well.. I was thinking "Hmm.. not sure that all 4000's had that gear-type pump." But if I read the parts data from Messick's right, I guess after 1969 they all did. Nice job, UD.

I think all the 4000s had the rear pump, except for some of the utilitys and industrials - 4400, 4410, 4500 which, if they had transmission or no PTO had the side pump. All the SOS models had the side pump too.

(quoted from post at 08:16:23 09/30/12) I think all the 4000s had the rear pump, except for some of the utilitys and industrials - 4400, 4410, 4500 which, if they had transmission or no PTO had the side pump. All the SOS models had the side pump too.

Ultradog, my 1973 S-O-S 4000 has the engine mounted piston pump. All 3 cylinder S-O-S 4000's had them. I think that the 8 speeds with independent PTO might have had them as well, but I'm not 100% positive.

My S-O-S 4000 also does not have a hole or plug in the location you indicate in your picture. According to my owners manual, my level check plug is one of the bolts on the perimeter of the dummy plate that's there where the gear pump is in your picture. It's actually a little lower down as well, as I have to pull the brake springs and move the footrest out of the way a little to check the level on mine. That's why I made a dipstick the first time I checked the level. My dipstick is a 12 inch or so long nylon wire zip tie that I put down the hydraulic fill hole. I can get an exact measurement later when I go out to my garage.
