ford 601 workmaster

Father passed and I am the new owner of his FORD 601 workmaster and am wanting some info. Numbers on it are 641 then underneath it has a diamond shape then 162718 and ends with a diamond shape.

what horsepower is this tractor?

Your serial number puts it as being a 1961 model - the last year of the x01 series. 134 c.i. engine (unless it's a diesel - then it's a 144), 4-speed, live hydraulics, non-live PTO, 32 h.p. @ PTO. Nice little tractors.

Hp is around 33 as per the Neb test list. What you have is a 601 series model 641 which has a 4 speed transmission and non-live PTO. If you look at the left of this page under research and info then ford then you series you can see where the serial number fit so get the year. I will not do it for you because if you learn how then you have learned something

what would a ballpark value be on the 601 workmaster gas?

problem we always had. under gas tank, the on off valve always leaked. put another one on and dang if it doesnt leak. in off or on pos, it leaks, slow drips. any suggestions or just put gas in it when i use it

Check out Smith's Old Ford Tractors for some great info on your tractor. (See link) With respect to the shut off valve it was a problem, especially with the after market valves. They just don't last. The older screw type is rebuildable, but your tractor probably has the newer lever type. Not rebuildable. Some have installed a second inline shutoff closer to the carb which is relatively easy and much more convienent to reach. I believe Hobo has a thread with a picture or two of his set up. You'll have to search the archives.

155531 makes it a 1962 model

The reference book I looked at lists '61 as the last year for x01's. And as far as I know that is right - the 'prior' 2/4000's were built from '62 to '64 (and some in '65). That book (and I) could be wrong... but here is the s/n breakdown by year that it has:
1957 starting at s/n 1001
1958 starting at s/n 11977
1959 starting at s/n 58312
1960 starting at s/n 105943
1961 starting at s/n 155531

I don't know which is right, your book or the other 3 sites that most folks go by, but the reference pages on this site, and external_link, and John Smith's site all have the following list of starting serial numbers:

As Vito says...
A price range for my area would be $1200-$1500 for a running but rough tractor with fair to poor tires to $3500-$4000 for a very good one with very good tires, tin and paint and no mechanical issues.
