I have a ford 515 (same as a 4600) that starts really hard. A frind has ford and suggested that the fuel injector pump could be the culprit. How tough is it to rebuild? It has a leak around one of the caps on the plungers, does anyone get them rebuilt or do you do the rebuild?

A little more information might help. Engine hours? A brief history of the tractor?
A diesel shop can repair your pump for you, but you should check a few things first. Change fuel filter(s) Clean wet filter, or replace paper air filter(s).
Last, remove the fuel injectors, do a compression test and have the injectors cleaned and re-set.
Then if everything else is OK, it would be time to rebuild the injection pump.
