If it's true - this stinks!

I put a new lever type fuel shut off valve on my prior 4000 gasoline about the 1st of April this year. (my records indicate I purchased it on March 13) It is leaking profusely at the stem already. It's bad enough that I'll have to do the whole process over, but my parts man says he doesn't think warranty will replace it.

Nothing burns me more than paying good money for supposed OEM quality parts and getting china's finest in the box. If that's how it's going to be then china's finest price will work too...
Of course... mabey that corn whiskey is playing a role in this too...

Larry - I had the same experience with the same
type of tap on my 62 4000 a few months ago. In my
case, the thing didn't leak to the outside world -
it just didn't shut all the way off. And it's a
miserable job to re-do!
There's no quality control with these parts today.
I did a rebuild on my TSX 769 carb and found that
the new throttle shaft was machined wrong and held
the throttle plate crooked enough that it jammed
in the bore. - I had to put the old one back in
which worked fine. I guess that's just the way
things are. But I hate to waste time and money!-

Larry,
Last year when my 4500"s shut off valve started leaking I bought a new NH one off of Messick"s website. When it came and I saw the "quality" of it chose to replace the o ring in the original one instead.

Suppose you just need to change the O ring using a nitrile O ring.

I wonder if I can still find the valve I took off last spring in the trash bucket. That'd likely be my best bet.

Larry, I have two. Different tractors that I have installed brass
shut off's I got at the hardware, just had to come up with the
right thread combinations. They were inexpensive and work
flawlessly.

If you do the business I think you do at your local NH dealer, I"d be all over him (or the parts manager). I"d probably eat the cost of the fuel tap if one of my good customers couldn"t get 6 monthss out of it. OEM standard parts warranty is 90 days, I believe. If I weren"t 700 miles from home today, I"d tell you for sure.............
