6V sealed beam bulbs

I am looking for the best place to get a set of 6V sealed beam bulbs for a 420w's head lights. I have seen 6V bulbs listed as "high beam" or "low beam" but they are for 620's and up.. The 420's have a high and low beam setting but I think the power is cut to create the low beams??? Please correct me if I am wrong about that....

I bought some for my 420 at O'Reilly Auto Parts, they cost around $10 each. I don't know about your high beam question, but I think you are right because it looks like there is a resistor on the switch that could cut current to the lights. Hopefully someone will confirm either way.

The 620's are 12 volt. And I bought mine at the local NAPA store. I have seen in the books listing both high and low beam lights. Now I do not know which I bought. I do know there is a resistor on the back of the light switch that reduces the voltage to the lights. My lights go from bright and dim. But I do not know if my bright lights are as bright as possible. Any way I can see. Not worth the trouble to change them now.

I think I am confused at this point. I was on the phone with Stiener this afternoon and they didnt seem to have a clue what sealed beam bulb I needed either..

The 420'S I've had used a twist in 6 volt bulb.
The sealed beams were 12 volt,there available at napa or tsc for around 12 bucks.

Usually where one bulb is used for both high and low they are dual element.
That's usually on later models and 12V.
I thought the tractor you are dealing with used small bulbs behind a lens, not sealed beams.

I would laugh also, cause a sealed beam does not use a bulb! it is a sealed beam.

If the 4511 is what you need, I'd find another NAPA to deal with....common
Also, usually on the shelf at TSC stores

I hate to inform you but to my knowledge of the dubuque tractors of this erra that used a sealed beam 6 volt light is NO LONGER AVAILABE.
unfortunitly you will have to buy the earlier style of light unit that has a TURN IN LIGHT BULB.
I have been through this before. there was a certain period that JD tried to use this special sealed beam 6 volt and they discontinued it at the end of the 420 erra. On the new 430 they went to a new design of light like on the rest of the 30 series tractors that had a new design 6 volt sealed beam... the one you can buy today. IT DOES
NOT fit the light unit you have for your 420.
So take the two front lights off put they in a box
marked NFG or parts no longer availabe. Go buy 2 new lights from stiener and put them on. they have to be the bullet style to be original as can be. at a first look you will say the two lights look the same but if you look close the one on your 420w is designed special for a sealed beam. Even the outside ring is different and DOES NOT interchange. the rear light JD always used a turn in bulb so you dont have to worry about a SEALED BEAM not working for it. Hope this helps, I have been there done this. Good luck.

well sir, I believe you are right. I went to another NAPA this morning and looked at a sealed beam # 4511 as instructed on here..no dice, different size.. time to do as you said and break out the wallet. Thank you for you input

Those are the same bulbs that NAPA offered.. they are the wrong size.. I believe JD_Adict"s comments are accurate. I called John Deere and after 20 mins on the phone they agreed. Thanks though...

well i was just replying to your post, not making fun. a sealed beam is just that... there is no bulb. when it burns out you throw the whole thing away , and buy another sealed beam... no bulb.
if you are looking for a bulb then it goes behind a lens and it is not sealed. just giving correct info so you can ask for proper part. thats all.

I had posted an additional question, but then re-read JD Addicts post, so I'm editing. The housings on my tractor have been replaced, but they are not the tear drop style, they are just slightly rounded on the back and take the 4511. I guess that's what he was taking about when he said to put new housings on. One thing for sure, they are a lot brighter than the twist in bulbs.

Well, as long as we're talking sealed beam bulbs...
Today at work, the parts guy handed me a couple of sealed beam head light bulbs. GE #4019. 6V 30W. I think they are 6" OD. I didn't measure them. If these will work for anyone the price is right. Just pay me for shipping. He was just gonna throw them out. My inner packrat kicked in, and I couldn't let that happen.
