Looking for a garage sized JD that travels 12mph

I"m looking for a JD tractor that will fit in my garage and travel at 12 mph or more for tractor rides. The "WHO Radio" tractor ride here in Iowa is making this request. I have been looking at Ford 8N tractors and others that size but would like to keep in JD green and garage stored. Any suggestions? Any color would be considered but do not know enough about others speed of travel for a tractor that size.

Thanks

RG

Willing to travel to Michigan to get one? I'd like to get this 1020 gas out of my toolshed.

Would hate the liability depending on those brakes. If using two cylinder would rather have row crop.

I was thinking M, 40, 420. Not sure of travel speed. They will be a garage fit (28x28x8). Been on the WHO ride for 16 years with my 82 year old Dad with B threw 530. I like the size of the smaller tractors and am short on space.

John Deeres are not known for their speed. Other brands are.
A 4020 with muffler will go into a 7.5 foot door. I know for a fact as I made my door to that size and bought a special door.
Should go in 7 foot fine with muffler off.
I had a late B,H,LA and 720 diesel all in the basement 2 car garage of the old home. 720 was only one needed muffler pulled off. I might of had to trim a bit off the B?

My wife parks her car in the garage on 1 side. My 4020 WILL NOT FIT under a 7' door. It has a ROPS.

Mid to later styled A, up to '49 model year. Will do way over 12 mph but will fit in garage door. It is tight but it will fit.

I have a 420 with 11.2-34 rear tires and it is a little faster than dad's ford 8n. We tested them on the road once when no one was lookin! I think actual speed is 12.5 MPH.

Randy,

This little guy will fit in your garage easy and trailer well too. 12 MPH is about all you can expect from any two cylinder john deere .

You do not want to be the guy setting the pace in a tractor ride with any old john deere. Only been on one tractor ride and will not do it again as speed was painstakingly slow.

An H is a neat and tough little tractor that has one slow gear and two that are even slower! He only goes about 7.5 wound up tight in high gear! Grew up on one & am to this day amazed sometimes by what that little guy will do. Unless you find some really large diameter rear sneakers for him he will not roll the requested speed unless coasting down hill or is in tow!

My 48 A would just barely fit in my garage until I put the tall exhaust stack on it. I put a set of 16.9's on the back. It really motors down the road good. Wish there was a tractor ride club I'm my area.

Now, you KNOW you are describing a SilverKing..!!

Some of them would come close to legal speed on the Freeway..!!

(quoted from post at 07:46:45 01/17/14) An early 40"s JD with the hi/lo transmission will do the trick. I have a "42B that can travel 15-16 MPH

My '47 A has the high/low transmission, but I also think it has a special high-speed transmission. I've clocked it on the gps going 19 MPH. I don't go that fast on it often because it's scary. It'll go faster than my 630, and passes my 2010 utility at idle speeds...

12 MPH is pushing the upper limit of safety with those old tractors.
Some, like a JD "R" handle real good on the road, but I will not even hold my JD 720 wide open in road gear..the steering just plain gets too touchy.
Besides, the rear tires take a mile or more to get the flat-spots out of them..
How can you enjoy the drive at anything over 8 mph, or is it a race..?

Ron..

Yes, those are Firestone Field/Road tires on the Model 40T.

They are size 11.2x38 that were taken off one of our Model B tractors.

We put new Titan 11.2x34 tires on the MT this week.
