Was looking at a 4440. I need to know the
good the bad and the ugly about this
tracto any help is appreciated

Was the proper oil use din the transmission? Was the coolant anti corrosion package kept active?

4440 were a one of JDs best.The Sound Guard cab was the best of the 70/& 80s and JD continued to improve them with the 50 /55 being better.The problem is make sure you get a good one as they can be used up in the 34 years or less they have been in service.I have seen them sell from $10K to $30K[2500hrs] new they were less than $20K if I remember right.Not a big 8sp powershift fan but some people would not have anything but.Not hard to tell the used up ones if you cant have a JD tech inspect it.

I'll add to what the other posters stated to have "all fluids" checked by a laboratory. JD dealers have test kits.
