I am planning on replacing the r-12 refer to r134a. I have retrofitted home air conditioning and the question is, what is the process with a 4430? I will evacuate the system, will the compressor need to be changed? How about the expansion valve ? Do they have an expansion valve or a capillary tube?

My 4255 cools better on R134a than it ever did on R12.

I have never done anything but charge with R-134, even if some R-12 was still in there..NO Problem..
R-134 does need to run a higher Low-side pressure and I feel it cools better...
I have 1/2 a BOTTLE of R-12, if anyone wants to buy it...!!

Just vacuum system really good and load it with r414a, it works well for me.414 isn't much more than r12 and is basically a direct replacement.
A few choices... Keep the original mineral oil refrigeration oil and run a b*u*s*t*a*r*d refrigerant like Freeze 12, or get all the mineral oil you can out of the system and install POE oil and R-134A, or COMPLETELY flush the system of mineral oil, replace the compressor and dryer, and install PAG oil and R-134A. The BEST and Deere-approved method is the latter.
DO NOT mix the original mineral oil and PAG oil. (Can you say "Jello"?)
