blowing flames

my 60 is blowing flames out the stack.now,is this a timeing problem,or something else?

At slow idle, at fast idle, part load, full load, cold engine, hot engine, sunlight, overcast or dark of night?
Spark plugs look the same? Are the plugs Autolite 3116?

slow idle,no load,day time,in shedd,plugs are autolite 318 i think.oh yea,cold.

I think you may have more than one problem. Could be getting too much fuel, firing when the exhaust valve is open, valve not closing all the way. Is the tractor hard to start? Does it load up on fuel. Maybe needs a valve job. Broken valve spring? How"s the compression?

Never seen one blow flames cold, when I was a kid plowing with the A that would shot fire .

tractor starts right up,no grinding or anything.been rebuilding this thing for 6-years,<most of it this summer> and have just finshed.have done or put new piceses on whole tractor.
had a hard time getting it to run at all.just now started blowing out the flames.these are not contiuneous flames.also is a little rough running.this is why i thought it might be the timeing.

thanks fellows,got the flames out.adjusted the distributor a little bit,and one of the idle needles was off a touch.no flames,running smooth.well,for a 2-banger.lol
