A john deere smoking out exaust

I would appreciate some help with smoking problem with my old 51 A j.d. having a lot of excessive smoking on start up, once warmed up better but does not complete go away. Starts good, runs good but smoking is bad on startup
rebuilt motor last year, had block bored to .090" new aluminum pistons, has been ok until late. I removed plugs cranked over after sitting a couple days all i saw was plug on belt pulley side had a bit of oil around plug. thought i would aask for help before i do something wrong. At age 76 things are not as easy as they were when younger. one more thing looked inside radiator with engine running thought i could see air bubble up occasionally. thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a head gasket leak. Did you re-tork the head after the rebuild and a complete warm up? I would start there first. Also did you check the level of the oil? Possibly some gas has run into the crankcase and the excess oil is getting into the cylinders. Let us know what you find and we can go from there.

You are aware that the Rt side (Clutch Side) cylinder (#2) Loafs a lot, at idle speed...
That can cause it to foul more often than the Left one..so, plug "condition" may be miss-leading..

Change the engine oil and see if the smoking goes away...

Ron..

Make sure your oil doesnt smell like gas. If it does you may have had fuel leak into the crancase and overfill and thin the oil.
