Running a 4955 plowing in 7th gear and 1500 rpm will go along just fine then it's just like somebody pushes the clutch in for a second and then it goes along fine again any ideas ? Thanks Shaun

It's possible a wet hyd actuated clutch isn't getting correct trans pump operating pressure. I recommend checking pressures. They should be around 165 psi. Are the tires momentarily slipping? Why are you operating the engine at the very low end of JD's recommended operating rpm range?? 1500 rpm leaves no room for "lugging down of rpm" if a hard place in soil is contacted. 1500 was JD's lowest recommended lugging rpm.

I run one of these for several years. We had a hydraulic leak at the couplers and when the transmission got low on oil it would do this.

Check the hyd oil level and make sure its full. I would also recommend running about 1800 rpm rather than 1500 as well.

As previously stated. Why lugg the guts out of it at 1500 when it rated for 2200?
Shifting up and throttling back is for light loads. Ploughing is not a light load.
To make the same drawbar HP at 1500 rpm then 2200 rpm. You have increased the torque load by 146% to some components.
Wind up the rpms to up to 1950 and obtain the same 3.2mph ground speed in 5th gear. Then get back to us.

I am pulling 4 16s and it pulls it just fine at 1500 the rpm never changes shifting up and throttling back would be trying to run in tenth or eleventh not 6 or 7 thanks for the help anyway

4X16"s !!! it should pull them in road gear, that"s 56HP per bottom....

Throttling back? You already have it throttled back. You didn"t say anything about 4-16" instead of the 8-20"s that everybody was left thinking.

I still don't recommend pulling anything that can pull the engine down at 1500 rpm. I don't know why you don't use your 4020 for this job either.

Better to run turbo charged motor at at least PTO speed .Most 4955 ran 200+ horsepower so that would be more than twice the usual 25H.P. per bottom that is adequate in most conditions.Plowing much over 5MPH usually throws the dirt farther than ideal.As cheap as plows are you can buy a nice 6/18 cheaper than a collector 3 bottom semi mount.
