Rusty wheel

Hey guys, I need some help. I have a 1945 JD H. The engine won't speed up with the governor linkage hooked up but with the throttle linkage unhooked from the carb, you can speed it up by hand. Engine will idle with linkage hooked up but when you move the throttle lever to speed it up the control lever on the governor won't let it. Never had this happen efore. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Have had mine apart toooo many times with the gear noise issue. Don't know if you've had it apart. Just a possibility here but once I put the metal forked plate in the wrong postion in accordance with the thrust bearing and that messed up the linkage. I doubt that's your case tho. The only other thing that might be a possiblity is the gov weights ??? BTW I still can't get rid of the gear noise no matter WHAT I do... Good luck !!!

Any other tractor, I would say it needs a new gov. spring. Does the H have a flat spring like the A or B? Maybe add another to stiffen it.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the governor has a flat spring just like the A and G and B. I think I've got this thing figured out. Linkage was all out of adjustment. Didn't have enough tension on the spring to overcome the force of the weights. Thanks again.

I've finally settled with the position that on my H when the gears quit making noise, I have a real problem!

Don't feel bad Ifnel. Your not alone from what I've gathered on the forum. Still can't get rid of my noise no matter postion the fan shaft is in or how I shim it or the gov bearing. At a total lose here. Can't even enjoy the 'two cylinder sound' w/out hearing the noise...
