disk to pull with 730 diesel

i was doing a little disking with the 730 pullin a ten foot RWA an i had to look back an make sure it was there a few times i was wondering how big of one i can pull with no duals and no loaded tires in plowed ground. i was thinking of a 13 or 15 foot.

If you are truly disking, then 12' is enough.

Do you ever hook anything behind the disc? It makes a huge difference. I pull a 14' disc and cultipacker with a 4020 on level ground, and it's a load.
I agree with the 12'. You don't need loaded tires, but duals are always welcome on plowed ground.

The thing is, loose plowed ground needs to be settled with a good "Drag", to sift it down..
It will save you fuel and the Disc tractor can pull much more..
Without Duals, wheel slippage and compaction are both problems..
Our 1st pass was with out "Soil Surgeon" on a JD "B"..it is a Drag, with 4 rows of "U-shaped" knives about 4" long..leveled the ground very well and gave us a place to toss rocks, when we found them..
Followed that with an AC WD-45 with Duals, on an IH #37 10' Disc, with JD Harrow..

I KNOW, your 720 could handle way more than the WD-45..!!!
Sometimes, it is really hard to tell when a JD 720 is starting to work hard, or not..what a Moose, they ARE..!

here in upstate NY, I would feel like my 12' disk with 21" discs is plenty in hilly ground with a 7400 4wd JD and duals. We have pulled with less tractor 4010 JD but 12' is plenty when the disc is dropped in deep. Can usually do about 6-8mph with the 7400

I think 13' would be about right. Father in law back in the day used a 770 oliver with 13' disk and so did my dad with a IH super M. I have pulled a Dunham 10' disk with a '52 JD A in bean stubble 4"deep in 4th gear.

Back in the day my family's JD 730 pulled a JD 12' wheel disk with a railroad track drag bar chained in tow behind the disc for a leveling drag. Seemed a good match from what I can remember. We had clamp on duals but typically only used them when wet for floatation. Tractor pulled disc fine without duals in normal ground.

A couple of times, I pulled a 21ft 4in, 235 JD disc with a 4020.......had to move it from where it'd been left on another farm back to the shop. Of course, if I was gonna put one IN THE GROUND, I'd hook to a 12 ft (or 14ft max) AW or BW........with a 95 (pto) hp tractor.

i wont be pulling it all the time on plowed ground will be in corn and bean stubble. Grandpa talks how back in the day he used to pull this 10' rwa with a cultipacker and a drag behind that in second gear all day on plowed ground. wanting this disk to pull behind a 120 hp 4020 also in plowed ground.

When we used 730's we pulled a 13'6" disc with ours. It was in 4th gear. I still have the 730 my grandpa bought new. Don't farm any more, but still drive it around once in a while.

My R pulls a 15' tandem disk in ND red river valley gumbo
with 8 hundred pound suitcase weights & a row of cement
blocks, wheels retracted, in 3rd gear. A good load but not at
all too much. The disks' diameter makes a difference too.
