I had to have a new saw the Mcculloch was a hunk of junk from day one and I finaly got fed up I got a Husqvarns 240 nice saw cuts well appears to have plenty of power I hope it lasts
 
I've had these for a long time, heat with wood and have had good luck with them. I'm curious why yours was junk from day one. Is it a newer one, not made like they used to be?

well I think it is a newer model and I think it was probably the homeowner grade not a pro model but it was always goofy and wouldnt oil I finaly pulled the line out of the oil tank and shot compressed air through it and got a hunk of metal shavings out of it and then it oiled, but it was never a good saw
 
I have a 350. Starts and runs great, lots of power (more than my friends Stihl that has the same size motor) cuts good. It's a lot lighter than the stihl too. BUT it has a lot of plastic and that breaks a lot. The dealer that sold it to me said he's had to replace a few of the handles because they got pulled off when the bar got pinched and the owner pulled to hard trying to get it out. Mine got broke too but I was able to drill a through bolt and fix the problem. It had a screw screwed in from each side.
 
I would guess a 310 a 650 and a 700? I LOVE the 650 saws I have. right now I have 10 of them with a 605 and about eight 610 saws. All told I have almost 50 McCulloch saws.Yea the "hobby" got a little out of hand. The "aftermarket" mcculloch saws were all kinds of junk and I wouldn't touch them. You want pre 1999. A 650 in correct order is an almost 4hp cuttin beast! If you put a full chisel chain on.. oh baby. I also have two 650 saws with bow bars on them. Now you are talkin scareeerrry fast cutting.
 
I know it"s not right to bash a company on one experience, but here"s my McC story: started farming 41 years ago, BIL gave me a McC. He had given up on it, thought I might be able to use it to clear some land. BIL was a Cat mechanic on the Iron Range, northern MN, later taught at the tech school in Hibbing, so obviously a good mechanic.

Only way I could start it was crank it in a vise, start it, walk to where I needed it, while running. Had a 3 acre patch of woods near the road, left it out one night. Someone STOLE it! Only loss was, I left the gas can with it! Kharma is a beotch, just like THAT saw.
 
A real McCulloch, something from 1985 or so or earlier is a fine saw. These things they call McCullochs from the past few years...just walk away.

Sadly, I can say the same thing about a lot of Huskys and Stihls too, unless you shell out $800-1000.00.
 
The one in the foreground is an 800, my dad had a 700. I was at the dealer long ago, he had the slightly used 800 and I couldn't pass it up! It runs smoother and beats the 650 thru big logs but is heavier and I'm "saving" it, will never have another like it,the 650 gets the most use.
 
Still use my Dad's old Mac. It must be 50 years old. Only problem is that it takes at least 3 pulls to get it going after it sits for a few months.
 
Do you have a McCulloch Supper 55 in your collection? Dad had one with a 27 inch bar with a full chisel chain. It was a hand full it weighed 27 lbs and was gear driven and put out a little over 7 HP. It was a well built saw.
 
I have one of the older small Mac's, cuts great, has a load of power, but once it's hot don't shut it off, will never start. Have to wait until it cools off to start it again.

Dad has a Mac 10-10, bought brand new in 1970, starts second pull cold every time and cuts great. But like you say, if you shut it off hot, you may as well go have lunch because it won't restart until it cools down. For the first fifteen years he owned that saw it cut 22 cords of firewood every year:)
