Where do I purchase an oil filter for a john deere 70 diesel tractor?Thanks, Ray Mayers.

At the JD dealer or any wix dealer, fleetguard, baldwin, napa etc. Go to any of their websites and lookup the part number

Deere will likely have the best price on the filter. At least that's how it is here in western Ohio.
If however you go to a NAPA store or Tractor Supply, they will have one but it will also come with a new seal which does not come with the Deere filter!
Sorta therefore depends on what you want or need.
The seals seldom NEED replacement and if you decide to replace it you'll do some pickin to get 'er all out but I'm guessing you're not real familiar with all this or you'd not have asked the question. That assumption leads me to offer an extra word of caution!
Don't assume that big nut needs tightened real tight! It does NOT. You can make a LOT of work for yourself real quick if you tighten it as much as its size might lead you to think necessary. Tighten only enough to not leak. A 6" adjustable wrench would usually be sufficient if they'd fit the nut.

Thank you very much for your reply. I just purchased the tractor and it runs very good.I would appreciate any info on maintainance.My be a stupid question, but where do you add the motor oil?There is a cap on top the block and the dip stick is toward the bottom.Thanks, Ray.

Created a lubrication checklist of each of our tractors.
Have a lubrication checklist for "Big John" our '55 model 70 diesel tractor.

The oil fill in above and in front of the belt pulley on top of the case. If you go to a Deere dealer to get a filter get an operators manual.
Remember to tell him to drain the timing cover, too. It's pretty tough to describe all of the drain points and thingys on a 70D if you don't have an operator's manual in hand. People start adding motor oil to the FRG because the lettered series used motor oil, they crank the dip stick tight to check the level when it it is supposed to just rest on the top of the threads, drain the pony AFTER they added fresh oil to the diesel crankcase. Unless you've been around one, it really takes an hour of manual stud to make certain that you do things right and in the correct order.
