custom Chisel plow shank advise needed

I need some urgent advise on chisel plow shanks.

A local machine shop needs to make 40 custom chisel plow shanks and they want to make them out of 4140 annealed that measures 1-1/4” x 2”

Do you think this will work?

I personally don’t think it will work.

I think they need to be made from 1080-1090 spring steel or something similar.

There used to be some companies that custom made chisel plow shanks.

Do any of you know of a specialty shop/company that could custom make these shanks.

P.S. These are for a custom rig. If any of you know where I could find a deal on shanks let me know as well.

The tensile and yield are higher for the 4140 the impact is is greater for the 1080. Just google Characteristics of xxxx type steel and it will lead you to comparison charts for both types. Since it is your job I can imagine you can spec what you want unless the shop is trying to save you from yourself.
