I have a Jonsered 621 and today I planned to buy a new bar & chain for it. L&M has a 20% off sale for 3 days, could of gotten one for $40, if it fit! They would of had to order the correct bar, so no sale price. They told me that the holes for the chain tensioning pin was different. Has anyone ever tried drilling a bar? I have a good drill press and some good drills. Thanks in advance.

Hello Russ from MN,
The bar can be drilled, but you need to check the oil passage to it. The oil feed to the bar will be in a different spot when bolted to the saw.
Check the dimentions before you driil the bar.
I have drilled bars when the chain was still good but too loose to get tighten.

Russ it can and we have done it many times. Some older stihl bars would fit. It can be ordered too.

The Jonsereds, the larger ones like the 621 anyway, use the same bar mount pattern as Husky, Dolmar, and several others. Baileys makes and adapter to use Stihl bars on Husky/Jonsereds saws.

Yes, they are fairly easy to drill, tough steel but not real hard.

That doesn't sounds like a particularly special price to me to begin with...
Why not just get the correct oregon bar and be done of it. If you change the position of the adjustment hole then basically you're extending the bar out beyond it's normal range... then you need an oddball chain with an extra driver...
I think I know exactly what bar you have too.... my firewood processor uses one like that. That particular bar saves me from buying a longer chain that I'd have needed to use a more standard stihl bar...
