Have a friend/partner who owns a local pawn shop. Well he stopped by this evening right around dark. He dropped off a Surebonder air nail gun and a Dewalt hammer drill plus a empty sawsall box and a tool belt. Bad thing is he does this from time to time when cleaning out the pawn shop of things he does not think they can sell. The hammer drill while it does work arcs and sparks real bad in the brush area so I know that means if I am lucky new brushes and a cleaning will fix. The air nail gun not sure yet and maybe just some oil and all on it. Nice to have a friend like him even if I have to work on the tools

Dad and I used to work at a scrap yard on the weekends where shops dumped items they couldn't, or didn't want to fix so they could sell something new. Over the years we got a nice 30 gallon Dewar for holding liquid nitrogen, a hot water parts washing cabinet, thousands worth of impact sockets from 13/16" to 4", a working 8Kw diesel generator, quite a few air tools, lathe and mill tooling, a Dodge gearbox that was torn down but I recently sold as a core for $800, an electric pipe/rod threading machine with about a dozen die holders and about twice as many dies, quite a few small engines of various brands and HP's, a dumping 3 wheel 'golf cart', and that's just the things I can remember. That said your right, it's nice to have friends in places like that, even if the stuff they can get you needs a bit of TLC.

I wish the city dumps where still like they where back when I was a kid. I still remember going to dump a load of trash and then bringing back home a load of stuff that we saved. I have a toy truck my dad found at the dump and it has been appraised at $1500. Funny how people throw away good stuff just because it is not good enough for them

Funny you say that since I was talking to the boy yesterday about it and how to rig away to be able yo use it as a weapon if the need was there by adding a handle on the safety so a person could shoot it across the room. I also need to find a set of new brushes for this Dewalt DW505/DW515 drill since I checked it out and the brushes are about gone

The drill comment got me to thinking. The place Dad works for now was cleaning up awhile back and had two drills that weren't working. One made some sparks when turned on and the other, a nice 1/2 hammer drill simply did nothing. Dad asked about taking them to the shop and was told to 'get rid of them', so he told me to stop in the next time I was in the area. Still haven't had time to fix the sparking one, but I needed a hammer drill shortly after getting them so turned my attention to that one. Went to take the side cover off to check the brushes and found the screw holding it in was missing along with the brushes. I was thinking about getting a set when I happened to look at the back side of the cover and noticed there was both a new screw as well as a new set of brushes in a holder. Put in the new brushes, used the new screw to replace the cover, and it works like a new one.

Man I love FREE stuff.....

Ya over the years I have picked up a lot of other peoples throw away junk and much of it had little or nothing wrong with it so I used it plan and simple. Sad how people now days throw things out just because they got something new

I had a neighbor that worked at the dump. He would bring home all kind of tools. He would show me his finds and ask why people would throw (this kind of stuff) away. He was not mechanically inclined at all so he would have me check it out. Some of it was really junk but a lot of it I could fix very easily. I kept about 70% of what I fixed and gave him back about 30%. He was baffeled by what people threw away but when you think about it a Makita 1/2 inch electric drill for instance. I put a switch and a cord on it, which cost me about $12 at work.(Local lumberyard) If previous owner had taken it to the repair shop to get fixed parts would have been $35-40 and %60 labor to fix a drill that could be replaced for $120. If a person isn't mechanically inclined that would be a $100 repair bill on an old $120 drill.

Ya with something like that I can sort of see but I have seen things like the long bow I have hanging on the wall that I found it the trash. What was wrong with it. Not a blamed thing. I brought it home put the string on it and shot it. Found to many things like that over the years and even have a toy truck that was picked up at the dump and it has been appraised at $1500 and I have had it since the age of 7 or 8
