How much do you want to spend? You could go to a shop that specializes in generators and get a custom built diesel generator that would run almost forever but would be pricey. You need to provide some more information in order to get a more specific answer. There's lots of good generators out there.

I don't know what the best generator is but the best fuel is Natural Gas if it's available to you, next is LP. These fuels do not go bad with age, they will keep for ever.

I bought a Kohler 14kw generator that's rated at 12kw on natural gas. It programmed to start once a week for 20 minutes and also starts automatically when the power is off. If you decide to buy one of these hire a master electrician that has wired transfer switches for a long time. I would also get the required permits to have the wiring and plumbing inspected. You also need to decide which circuits you want on the transfer switch. You can have up to 16 circuits on the 14kw and I have 13 circuits. I don't have well water anymore. All of my big appliances are natural gas. I bought the generator from Norwall.com in AZ off the Internet. There's free shipping and no sales tax. Hal

I forgot to tell you that one circuit in the transfer switch on the Kohler generator is dedicated to supply 120vac for charging the battery. It has the amperage regulated to two amps and voltage is regulated to 14.1 volts. Other makes of generators may have this same feature. Read the manual as it has a lot of useful info. Hal

I put in a 20KW Generac, the engine is being replaced under warranty to correct an oil leak. It was a pain to get that service arranged. I would not buy another Generac.

There is a reason those of us in the generator service field. Call them Genajunk.Cheap to buy and cheap is what you get.

there was a time when, you could buy anything made that would last, regaurdless of name on it, now it's just luck that any thing built today lasts...

To operate a continuous 6500W load, an 8000W or 10000W is required.
The label on the generator may say 6500W. That is a stretch for continuous operation at that output without burning out the gen. In particular during hot weather or operating motor loads with lagging power factors.
