Spread for bad rust pits

What would you use to fill(spread) good size rust deteroration as on battery tray, which is good, original, to repaint. Is there a vinyl thing or something. Like bondo. Just a spread. Cheese is xtra. Thanks for any info.

Use JB weld and some water on your finger to smooth it out. Then sand it to roughen it up some so the paint sticks.

Best way is hard to say without seeing it. If the metal is still sound other than the pitting I would clean to bare metal by blasting, chemical etc. Then prime with a two part epoxy primer and then bondo over the primer. Sand smooth and epoxy prime again to cover the bondo then paint. If the metal is pitted so bad that is seriously weakend the only true fix is cut out and weld in new then grind and fill to fix imperfections.

After sandblasting the tray on my Ford, I used some spray on undercoat that I lad leftover from another project.5 or 6 years later it still looks good.

I just did my battery box for my tractor with POR-15. First time I have used the product and was very impressed with it. It clings amazingly well to a rusted surface. Its tough enough to hammer in 12 hours. It will fill the pits and dry to a glossy smooth finish but if its severly pitted it will retain a wavy but smooth texture.

Thinking my rims with calcium damage are going to get this treatment next.

Thanks everybody. Integrity is still good but yet severly pitted. Have heard of the J-B weld deal before. Didn't know if bondo would stick well, but maybe, always picklex 20 on all blasted stuff. LOVE it.
