Cost of catastrophic health insurance

I am wondering what this cost is per year for anyone that has purchased it now or in the past. I bought one of these policies for 60 days when I was in between jobs many years ago. If you have one of these policies what is it per month? what does your policy cover? I should also mention that I am in very good health and 45 years old and I am on no medications.

A single male policy should be in the $300-450 a month range. That is for a fairly good policy.

It is the family plans that or crazy or if you are older with health problems. Sevral of my friends pay close to $2000 each month for health insurance. They say it has gotten worst under the new health rules from DC.

I have the health insurance for civil service workers that was started by Ike and Nixon. I can change plans every Nov, but I stick to one I have now through Kaiser. I pay about $400.00 per month and the government kicks in another $900.00 per month and it covers my wife and it covered our daughter until she turned 22. She's now 58 and has her own health coverage and dental
coverage. Hal

It will only get worse under the new health care bill. I have cancer so you can guess what it would cost me. More than I make on disability.

650.00 per month, large deductable, had cancer removed can't switch to a different company. Other companys have even stopped calling me. My insurance compamy has aready told me, under external_link care it will be going up by 1/2 to 3/4--to help pay for the loafers that wont work.

I'm 64, good health, pay $408 per month for 2,750 deductible, it pays 80% of most everything, after satisfying the deductible. Its a Health Savings Account, me only, non-smoker. Just looked at my premium sheet, and it would be $219 for 45 year old male non-smoker.

Health Savings Accounts are the best thing since sliced bread, which is why, of course, they will not be allowed under external_linkcare. The basic idea is that they are high deductible, low premium policies. What makes them so good is you can put up to $3,800 of your own money, pretax, into a Health Savings Account, and use that money to pay your deductible. In most cases, the combination of the premium ($220 in your case) plus the monthly cost of accumulating $2,750 deductible over a year ($230), adds up to less than a conventional health insurance policy. Anybody know of a zero deductible, 80/20 policy that a 45 year old guy can get for $550 a month? Or more to the point, anybody know of a zero deductible policy at ANY price?

But that's not the best of it. Lets say you get a low premium, high deductible "catastrophic" conventional policy. The deductible "resets" every year, and the unused portion is lost. But with an HSA, if you don't use the money you've saved up for the deductible, you get to keep it, and keep adding to it every year. And after you terminate the HSA (as I will next year, when I go on Medicare), you can use the money to fund the non-covered portions of Medicare.
