COM and a 336

Spent the day getting ready for our local antique pull today and
got to thinking. How much horsepower will a COM hold? I
have access to a 800 that needs an overhaul. Would it be
feasible to bore the 267 block to accept 504 sleeves and build
a 336? Would the 267 heads be a limitation or should a
person swap them for better heads? What kind of numbers
will a non turbo 336 make?

I can't answer all your questions but what I can't answer others can. A 267 block can only be bored to a 451/301 bore, it would take a 30 series block to do the bore for 336 cubes. The heads are a limiting factor for these engines, it takes a lot of head work to get them to move air. You could take an 830 block an bore it for 504/336 sleeves and make it direct injection with 70 series heads and have a fun little puller with a bit of work. As for the com I think it should hold up we have a com 411b with a warmed up 201 motor and its held up fine although getting the tractor balanced weight wise has been tough... the torque rise when it shifts from direct to com makes the tires spin right now. I don't know for sure how it affects the larger tractors right now we have an 800 in the shed I mite "tune up" and play with.
