JD 740 Running Gear

I bought a Gravity Wagon at auction this weekend, a Ficklin 300 box on a real nice John Deere 740 gear. The gear looks pretty new, pulls great at 30 mph+. What years were the 740 gear built, and what is their rated tons?

11 ton. You have the last of a along breed of Deere there. Not sure of the range of years made. Sometime in the mid 80's - the mid 90's. I bought a new 9 ton 720 in 1993; went back to the JD Dealer about 2, or 3 years later to buy a second 720, & Deere had stopped production of wagon gears permanately. No new 720 could be located anywhere at that point according to the salesperson.
