Wife bought me a post hole digger so I'd be more willing to put up her project sheds and such. Put it together on the old Ford 800 and just had to try it. Got reminded real fast that the Fords hydraulics on the 3 pt are no good. Buried that auger right up tot he gear box before I could get it stopped! Had to got get he DB990 to pull it out. Even trying to stop every 6" or so didn't work. Previous owner ran filthy oil in the Ford for decades and wore out the passages. 2 rebuilds and still the 3 pt is no good. Live and learn.

Never take a Ford and post hole digger to the field without a large crescent wrench. Backed one out many times.

Ya I tried the post hole digger on my 841 ford one time and found that my home made 3 point on my Oliver 77 worked a whole lot better and the Oliver had to front end weight so if I did get it down deep and stuck it could pull it out any how

Now the old Dagenham Fordson majors were good for digging post holes.
I have a '62 Fordson Super Major, and it will always pull the auger back out, but I think things went to hell when they started on the 'oo series!

Dad had a 3pt post hole digger mounted on a Ford 800. It was
better than digging the holes by hand but we still had to clean the
hole by hand. And if you were in mud, it would screw right into the
ground. I now use a bobcat. I has the power, drills straighter and
the hole is clean.

This post seems timely. I am picking up a JD 31 auger this evening and it will be going on the back of a MF TO-35 which I'm picking up this weekend. It has live PTO. Anyone have any advice to share with regard to using an auger on a 35?

I have a 801 diesel ford (871) and I've used it plenty on my post hole digger. Mine is only a 9" auger bit, never had a bit of trouble digging it in or pulling out except once. I found a tree root...

As I said, my 3 pt passages are worn, so I have a very weak 3 pt. I've seen other hundred series that had good hydraulics, I just don't own one.
