970 Case Hydraulic Help

Need some help resolving hydraulic issues with a 970 Case 8 spd Manual Shift. Zero to very little hydraulic pressure to remotes, steering, and three point even when engine is at full throttle. However, PTO seems to work just fine even on a maximum work load so not sure that it is the pump. After trying to generate pressure on the remotes at full throttle, there appears to be a lot of air foaminess in the oil when viewing the glass indicator bubbles on the side of the transmission housing. If the pump is sucking air at the intake, then why does the PTO perform ok? Have seen similar threads at this site previous, and wondering if someone here might give me some clues before I tear this thing down and go after it.

I had a similar problem with an 1175. Turned out to be the rubber sealing ring between the pump & inlet port. Simply pull the pump & inspect or replace. The PTO only requires about 200+ pounds of captured oil press. to work.

As John S has mentioned a air leak could be causing the problem. A simple flow test of the hyd pump would tell you what to service, pump or hyd valve. We can suggest items to look for but they would be just that, guesses. The flow test is the proper start to this repair, but if there is no way to have one done you can start by removing the pump and inpecting the seal. I just hate to see you spend time and money just guessing, Rod.

Thanks for the quick feedback. It will probably be next month before I can get to this project. Sound running tractor that is still around for mostly just sentimental reasons. No urgent need for it at the moment, but would like to keep it going as long as possible; especially if it's only simple/inexpensive fixes. I will check back in later to post what the result was.
