Hi,
I'm was wondering if anyone knows,if the power shuttle shaft should have a little hole on the inside. When I put air in the forward clutch pack there is air coming out that little hole. It is about 1" from the bottom of the needle bearing. I am having problems with it. I would like a call please, because it is to difficult to explain.

Thank You,
Marlin

is this a plain 580 or a C/D ect? also not completely sure where you are talking but the shuttle packs are pressure lubed so as to keep the plates running in oil air will really leak when applied where as oil is much thicker,,just my thoughts, also what problem are you having? need a little more info cnt

Case Nutty,
It is a plain 580. And yes I understand it will leak air before oil,But this little hole is inside of the hollow shaft. It is about 1" from the needle bearing.I hope this helps Case Nutty. I have worked on many 580 C thru k over the past number of years, But I,m not sure about this little hole it makes no sense because oil will come out when pressure is applied. Thank you very much for any help.

Thank you,
Marlin

Marlin, I will dig out my SM manual later and see if it will shed some light on your problem, I have worked on the 580CK/580B units a lot but it has been a day or two since I have been it too one but I think I remember the hole you are speaking of, on the tractor units they had a plug that was installed if a pto was not used to keep the oil going in the correct place not sure if a forklift used the same shaft but is possible for sure, is this a problem that just started or are you trying to fix something some one else has been into before? I run into this a lot I will let you know what I find cnt

Dear Case Nutty,

I do have a s.n. it doesn't show a hole there. This hole is about the size of a ball point pen tip and located about 1" from the needle bearing in the end of shaft.Yes,it has been worked on before by someone that patch it. This guy bought it at a sale CHEAP and it has not worked right since. I think he bought it not knowing what to look for. I have worked on 580ck & B models in the past. But I do not remember of tiny hole on that inter tube in the shaft. Because if it was in forward gear for even 10 min. it would fill the shaft with oil & some pressure. I’m having low pressure in forward

does it look like a machined hole or is it a bad spot in the casting that finally showed up? can you post a pic of it by chance? you may have to find a used replacement shaft to confirm sorry I am not much help I do much better with it in my hands

Case Nutty,

Thank you very much for your effort in trying to solve my issue. It,s really nice to share knowledge with guys on the forum.I will let you know what I come up with. My guys will put back together tomorrow sometime.I rebuilt the whole unit.

Thank You,
Marlin
