400 super diesel

How can I tell if a 400 is a true super diesel? I have a neighbor who is the original owner of one and he said it was a super diesel but another guy said it wasn't. Im going to try to get it bought either way as it has the wide front with it, a set of mounted plows and set of semi mounted plows. They had a 425 picker on it but they scrapped it last fall before i knew it.

There are a couple of things different on a Super. As Tom said a Super will have a PTO brake and also on the steering column there is a "boss" for the eventual Case-O-Matic lever on the 800. It is on the left side of the casting and is a flat spot that would be drilled and threaded if the column was used for COM. On the Super it is not drilled or threaded, but you can see how it would work. Also the block for a Super should be A1111, the same as a 700 or 800. I also believe the pump is set at 100 RPM higher than a regular 400. I need the experts to wheigh in on that. In addition the tool box is much bigger and does NOT have CASE stamped into the cover. That should give you enough clues to go by. I hope you have found one! Don

Also, the sides of the grill are cut out for the cultivator stay rod mounts to bolt on.

An addition to the parameters below:

The Super is configured with:

a. A American Bosch injection pump with RPMs - 400 to 1550, a regular 400 is 1450

b. The side forward sheet metal has opening (one on each side [a hole about 1” by 2”]) where implements can be bolted to the two ¾ inch bolt holes. These are on only late 1957 built 400’s and on all supers

c. Super 400 also had pressurized cooling system

D. Super serial number start with 8106131
