putting my 1961 630 back together

i was installing the top transmission cover with shifter i had the forks lined up put when the cover was down on it it would not go into R,1,or2 so when i tried removing it it really didint what to come off pried till snap busted the casting where shift sliders are also noticed the sliders were not lied up as they were when i removed it but its been apart for a month and someone or gremlin must have screwed with it grrrrrrrrrrr why cant people leave other persons parts ALONE!!!!!!!!!!

Had the same problem on my 1960 630 once but I guess I moved the shift rails during assembly without knowing it. Its REAL easy to do so before you look for someone to blame.... I figured out the problem and solved it before I broke anything luckly.

It takes a pretty stout screwdriver/ pry bar to break the rail suport strut on the cover. It is easy to mess up the fork alighment, so the cover won't come off. You have to locate the rail cought under the trans web with a screw driver and push it back to ctr to remove the cover. That happened in our shop a couple of times also. Knowladge comes with experience. We brazzed one back together on a trade in, replaced cover on customer unit. My son almost did same thing with our 511B, but the "old man" had to scold him, with a few choice garage terms. HeHe.
