Got the old SC in the shop today. Pulled the plug on the engine
oil, no water, but no oil either. Stuck a screwdriver up the hole
and found sludge about the same viscosity as gun grease.
After some prodding around finally struck oil. It was black as
coal and thick as molasses. Then pulled the plug on the clutch
housing. It was just as bad or worse. Went around to the
other side and pulled the screen out of the pan and took the
inspection plate off of the clutch housing send started
washing. Got the pan fairly clean but the clutch housing is
caked with oil, dirt, clutch, etc. So got some cleaning to do
yet.Hope I get to pull the plug on the trans/rear end tomorrow.
I see only one plug for that and then another for the PTO lift.

Zack remember the clutch and oil pan are connected by a hole. When you get it ready for oil a certain amount of engine oil should make its way to the clutch housing. The SC is a wet clutch and requires engine oil for lubrication. Nice tractor and looks like it has some hefty rear tires!
 
Zach, I wish our SC looked 1/2 as good as yours does when we started on it . You are doing things correctly , draining all the fluid out and cleaning things up first.
Maybe I can get a picture or 2 up on here soon.Ours sat in a Wisconsin salvage yd for about 25 yrs with the plugs out. The engine was the easy part of the resto job.
More latter if you guys would like to hear what we went thru to finish the restoration job. clint
 
If you have someone around there with small hands, have them reach in through the oil pan screen hole and with a wrag wipe out the bottom of the pan for you. Sounds like you need to change the oil, run it a little and change it again. Might take the side covers off the clutch and clean in there by spraying some diesel fuel.
