Thought maybe I'd get more responses here than the Ford forum...
There's a County 754 advertised not too far from me. They don't show up around here much, and are usually high priced when you can find one. This one is 'make an offer' because it has 'SOS issues'. I didn't know Countys were ever offered with the SOS. Just not a popular option? Thought it might be a good tractor to put in front of my manure spreader in the winter, if the SOS is repairable.

Isn't the 754 based on a 5000? If so it wouldn't be too hard to swap an 8 speed into the county and have a really bullet proof drivetrain.

Kinda what I was thinking. Would require the
differential as well, since the SOS used a different
gear ratio than the 8-speed. Maybe a complete rear
center section, for the PTO and hydraulic pump? I'd
see what was wrong with the SOS first - I've had a
couple of them, and liked them well enough.

Repair the SOS and have a very rare tractor indeed. There were not many of those made.

Usually the back end was "beefed up" with County's own crown wheel and pinion plus all the bearings.

I vote to fix the selecto-speed. The 5000 had the best selecto-speed that Ford made. This could be a great piece and I think you can fix it. Archie
