Block has hairline crack running from Cyl Head stud hole to cyl bore on the camshaft side---all 3 cylinders.Thick Liner. Eng S/N 1661411. Are these of concern or just stress cracks.Just purchased and want to restore it. Tractor S/N 09D924672.
Any comments?

That does not sound good. I would also carefully check the block behind the injection pump just where the head meets the block.

If the cracks are frost cracks then this area may also be a problem. They also might mean the engine has been overheated.

Cylinder heads do not usually crack on these tractor without a reason. Think I might have serious words with the seller.

Thanks for your comments. Block, other than the cracks mentioned previously, appears to be good. I purchased the tractor knowing that it had been run overheated and that I would have to do dome work on it.The head is cracked in several places beyond repair. Question still remains on the block cracks at the cyl head stud holes. The engine was still a runner when it was last used and shut down 2 years ago. The person that I purchased it from passed away two weeks ago so i can not get any more questions answered. The tractor , if I continue to restore it, will only be used as a show tractor so I think that the block cracks will be ok. I had a heavy equipment mechanic give his opinion and he said that he thought that the cracks would not be a problem
Thanks, Milt from North Carolina, USA

Thanks, I will be carefull when torqueing down the head.
Another situation that I hope that someone can help with. This engine P3/F3-152 had a concave disk about 3/16 inch thick in the pre chamber of the head in cyl # 1 & 2 under the prechamber cover but did not in #3. I can not find a parts list showing this item. I have asked the local Ford New Holand/ Massey Ferguson dealer about this and they don't know and can't identify these disks. Why are they there and what is their function or purpose and why not in cyl #3? Can anyone help on this?
Thanks, Milt
