How much play should you have in a wooden bearing for a combine straw walker or return pan (wood) bearing.

I think mine are shot they have a lot of slap in them.

And shouldnt those bearings be greased?

I dont ever recall reading a combine book saying to grease a wood bearing.

I was told once not to oil a wood bearing but never anything about grease

I have seen grease zerks on bearings before but I think they're better off dry, just my opinion I've never greased one. Rich

There should be no slop in them and the grease fittings are on them for a purpose and that is for use. A good bearing will only take only one shot of grease if that much before it pushes out.

I greased mine on JD 95 when I started haevesting and that was it. Some guys never grease them and they seem to wear good. I think the original ones were treated or presoaked before installing them---maybe.
